Jackalopes Dropped by Brahmas 6-3

Feb 18, 2024

The Odessa Jackalopes took on the Lone Star Brahmas in North Richland Hills Saturday night following a 3-2 overtime victory the night before

The 1st period both teams were quick through the neutral zone and getting odd-man rushes up the ice, but both goaltenders were strong to start the game. Lone Star would get the 1st power play of the game midway through the opening period and they would make no mistake as a net-front scramble resulted in the 1st goal of the game. The Brahmas would continue on their momentum striking less than a minute later to make it 2-0. The Jacks would get their 1st power play just 20 seconds after the 2nd Lone Star goal to try to bring the momentum back in the Jacks favor, but they wouldn’t convert on their first attempt. The 1st period would end with Lone Star in control 2-0. Shots on goal after 20 minutes of play were 11-10 in favor of Odessa. The Jackalopes last night totaled 12 for the whole game.

The 2nd period was a bit of a slower start for both teams as through the first five minutes of the middle frame, each team registered just a single shot on goal. The Brahmas would get another power play just six minutes into the 2nd. While the Brahmas seemingly had the puck in the zone for nearly the entire power play, they wouldn’t convert on the power play, but the Brahmas would convert right after as they used the momentum in their favor to extend the lead to 3-0. In the late stages of the 2nd period, following a Lone Star power play, the Brahmas would find the back of the net on the deflection to make it 4-0. The Jacks would get their best opportunity of the period on a breakaway from James Richman, however, he was stoned by Brahmas goaltender Jack Wieneke.

The Brahmas wasted no time in the 3rd period as the Brahmas would extend their lead to 5-0 with 17 minutes remaining in the 3rd. The Brahmas converted on a 2 on 1 just a few seconds later as they would reach 6 goals on the night and extend the lead to 6-0 over the Jackalopes. The Jackalopes would finally get on the board as Michael Kadlecik sniped one in the back of the net to break the shutout, making it 6-1 with 16 minutes to go. The Jacks would score two goals in 15 seconds, one from Zach Benayon and one from Teddy Manlove. However the comeback would come up just short. The Brahmas skated away with the 6-3 win.

The Jacks fall to 18-23-6 on the year, with the next game being Friday, February 23th, @ Amarillo. Puck drop is set for 7:15 P.M.
