Jackalopes vs. Ice Wolves 9/22 Weekend Preview

Sep 20, 2023

The Odessa Jackalopes kicked off their season at the NAHL Showcase and finished 1-2-1 (3 pts) and sit 8th out of 9 teams in the division. They’re hungry to get back into the win column as they travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, this weekend, to take on the New Mexico Ice Wolves.

Twelve different Jacks tallied at least one point during the showcase, which includes eight different goal scorers. Standing out for the Jackalopes was goaltender Quentin Sigurdson. Sigurdson recorded the win in his first game of the season against the Bismarck Bobcats. He stopped 46 of the 47 shots that came his way. Sigurdson’s record sits at 1-1-0 after taking the defeat against the Kenai River Brown Bears.

The Ice Wolves had a good showing at the NAHL Showcase. They currently have a 2-1-1 record (5 pts) and sit in 7th place right above the Jacks. They are led by forward Ryan Johnson who recorded 5 pts (3G, 2A) over the course of the four games. However, of the skaters that have played every game, three different Ice Wolves are averaging a point per game or more. Goaltending is definitely a strong suit for the Ice Wolves, as they’ve allowed 2 goals or less in three of the first five games of the season. The Jacks will have to find a way to get past the netminders this weekend.

One thing both teams struggle with is allowing shots to the net. New Mexico through five games has allowed just over 30 shots on goal against per game. While the Jacks have allowed nearly 36 shots on goal against per game. Defense is going to be a focal point for both teams as they enter this weekend.
