Jacks Fall in Game 2, Split Weekend Series with Ice Wolves

Sep 25, 2023

The Odessa Jackalopes, fresh off of a thrilling shootout victory in game one, looked to complete their first weekend sweep of the season as they took on the New Mexico Ice Wolves.

The beginning of the 1st period was dominated by the Jacks as they outshot the Ice Wolves 8-2 in the first ten minutes of the period. However, following the media timeout, the Ice Wolves would score the only goal of the period and dominate the final ten minutes. At the end of the 1st the shots on goal would be even at 15, but the score read 1-0 in favor of the Ice Wolves.

The Ice Wolves picked up right where they left off and unloaded on the Jacks in the 2nd period. The Ice Wolves would tack on three more goals in the 2nd and take a 4-0 lead going into the third period. The Jacks were still fighting hard, however, as they outshot the Ice Wolves 15-9 in the 2nd period.

The 3rd period was a back and forth affair as not only the physicality, but the penalties picked up. After going 0 for their last 17 on the power play, the Jacks would strike and get on the board as John Christen wristed one home from the left faceoff circle, taking the Ice Wolves lead down to three with six minutes remaining in the period. The Jacks would pull the goalie in attempts to continue their momentum and score some more goals, but New Mexico would convert on the empty net and seal the deal with a 5-1 victory.

The Jacks fell to 2-3-1 on the season and the Ice Wolves improved to 3-1-2 on the season. The next game for the Jacks is Friday, September 29th, as they take on the Colorado Grit for the first time. The game can be streamed through NAHLTV. An audio only free broadcast will also be provided through the Odessa Jackalopes YouTube page.
