The Odessa Jackalopes (2-4-1) took on the Colorado Grit (5-4-1) Saturday night in the second game of the weekend series
The first period played out a little differently than Friday night as the Jacks came out of the locker room buzzing. Midway through the first period, Hayden Demars found himself in front of the net as he deflected the shot from the point off the stick of Lem Vardy to make it a 1-0 contest. That’s Demars’ 2nd goal in as many games, assists going to Vardy (5) and Pietila (4). Just before the end of the 1st the Jacks would add an insurance goal as a cross crease pass found Adam Armijo and he buried it home to make it 2-0 Jacks. That was Armijo’s 2nd of the year, assists going to Michael Kadlecik (3) and Cameron Dunn (3). The Jacks would take that 2-0 lead into the 2nd period.
Just five minutes into the 2nd period the Jacks would add to their lead. Nicholas Puricelli would be the recipient of the goal as that was his 1st of the season, assists going to Matvey Ivanov (1) and Zach Benayon (2). The rest of the period was a back and forth affair, but a majority of the chances belonged to the Grit. About midway through the period a scrum ensued in the corner of the zone and Tommy Manzella would drop the gloves with Jack Roberts. They would both go to the box and be charged with a 5 minute major for fighting and a 10 minute misconduct. Goalie Quentin Sigurdson stayed strong and stopped all 11 Grit shots that came his way that period. The Jacks would be up 3-0 going into the 3rd.
The 3rd period was all Odessa as they created numerous scoring chances and around the midpoint of the 3rd period as they were on a 5 on 3 power play, Dunn tapped home a backdoor feed to extend the Jacks lead to 4-0. That would be Dunn’s 3rd of the season, assists to Kadlecik (4) and Vardy (6). While the Jacks registered 22 shots that period, Dunn’s tally was the only goal of the period. The final horn sounded and Sigurdson registered his 1st shutout of the season.
The Jacks improve to 3-4-1 while the Grit fall to 5-5-1. The next Jacks game is Friday, October 6th, @ 8:00 P.M. CDT. as they take on the El Paso Rhinos. These games will be available on NAHLTV and YouTube
