The Odessa Jackalopes (2-3-1) travel to Greeley, Colorado this weekend to take on the newest member of the south division, the Colorado Grit.
The Jacks, last weekend, were in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to take on the New Mexico Ice Wolves. Game one was a thrilling duel between the two teams that featured a last minute empty net goal, a shootout, and a Jacks victory. Hometown hero, Adam Armijo, and blue-liner John Christen netted both the goals in the shootout to give the Jacks the victory.
Game two was a completely different story as the Jacks got taken down by the Ice Wolves 5-1. That was highlighted by a three-goal 2nd period from the Ice Wolves to solidify their victory. There was a silver lining for the Jacks however, as they snapped an 0-17 streak on the power play by converting in the 3rd period.
The Grit’s year started out rough as they were swept by the El Paso Rhinos in a three-game home opening series. It quickly turned for them though as they had an impressive showing in Blaine, Minnesota, for the NAHL Showcase, going 3-0-1. Since being swept by the Rhinos, the Grit are an impressive 4-1-1 and hold the 3rd place spot in the south division.
This weekend’s contest will take place Friday, September 29th @ 8:15 P.M. CDT and Saturday, September 30th, @ 4:45 P.M. CDT. These games will be available on NAHLTV. Unfortunately, this weekend there will not be an Odessa side broadcast, there will only be the Grit broadcast.
