The Odessa Jackalopes are set to take on the Corpus Christi IceRays this weekend on home ice in games six and seven of the homestand.
The Jackalopes are winners of back to back contests dating back to the Sunday victory over Amarillo just a week and a half ago. They were also victorious over the El Paso Rhinos last Friday by a final score of 2-1. Both Tommy Wright and Matvey Ivanov scored for the Jacks in the winning effort. Saturday’s contest was unfortunately canceled due to unsafe ice conditions and will be made up at a later date.
Odessa currently sits in 7th place in the standings with a 10-10-4 record (24 PTS). Only six points separate the 3rd place El Paso Rhinos and the 7th place Odessa Jackalopes in the South division. This season for the East and the South divisions the playoff format switches to a six-team format. Seeds 1 & 2 receive a first round bye, while seeds 3 and 6 and seeds 4 and 5 will play a 2 out of 3 play-in tournament, with the winners from each series advancing to the playoffs. Therefore the Jacks currently sit five points out of the last playoff spot which is occupied by the New Mexico Ice Wolves.
As for their opponent, the Corpus Christi IceRays are 4-5-1 in their last 10 contests and currently sit in 8th place in the division with a 9-14-3 record (21 PTS). Two of their players have eclipsed the 20pt mark this season. Pierson Sobush and Anthony Cafarelli are both sitting on 21 pts on the year, Sobush has 8 goals, 13 assists, totaling 21 points. Cafarelli on the other hand also leads the team in goals with 11 goals, 10 assists, for 21 points as well.

Saturday is Teddy Bear Toss night, be sure to bring a teddy bear to throw onto the ice, following the 1st Jacks goal of the game.
