Jackalopes Complete Weekend Sweep Over Amarillo

The Odessa Jackalopes continued their strong start to the 2026–27 season this weekend, taking both games of a two-game road series against the Amarillo Wranglers. Odessa earned a 3–1 victory Friday night before battling to a 3–2 shootout win Saturday to complete the sweep.

Friday: Jackalopes Take Control in 3–1 Victory

Friday night opened with a scoreless first period before the Jackalopes broke through in the second. Ryan Staples put Odessa on the board first, firing home a shot from the point. Amarillo answered to tie the game, but defenseman Andrew Brees restored the Jackalopes’ lead with less than two minutes remaining in the period.

Odessa carried the 2–1 advantage into the third and continued to apply pressure. Staples struck again, this time on the power play, for his second goal of the night and the insurance marker that sealed the 3–1 victory.

Staples’ two-goal performance helped set the tone for a successful weekend and gave Odessa the opportunity to complete the sweep Saturday night.

Saturday: Odessa Holds Strong and Wins in Shootout

The Jackalopes wasted little time taking control in Saturday’s rematch. Cameron Grande opened the scoring in the first period, and Brayden Fuerst extended the lead in the second to give Odessa a 2–0 advantage heading into the final frame.

Amarillo mounted a third-period comeback behind two goals from Harout Arutyunyan, sending the game into overtime tied at 2–2.

Neither team found the back of the net during overtime, forcing a shootout to decide the series finale. Max Pieninkeroinen stepped up for Odessa in the second round and delivered the deciding goal, helping the Jackalopes secure the 3–2 shootout victory and complete the weekend sweep.

A Strong Start Continues

With two more wins added to the column, the Jackalopes improved to 6–1–0 on the season and have now won four straight games.

The weekend showcased Odessa’s ability to win in different ways — controlling Friday’s matchup before showing composure and resilience through overtime and a shootout Saturday.

With another successful road weekend behind them, the Jackalopes continue building momentum as they prepare to bring the action back to West Texas.
